Why do we subscribe to unconventional treatment ?

Why are  we so gullible? why do we fall easily to these people who parade the streets with different machines claiming that it cures all sorts of diseases.
They always walk around or are  stationed in one corner of a shopping mall or any public place  advertising their products.
It ranges from instruments that you stand on which vibrates like there is an earthquake  and they claim that it tells you your sugar level, blood pressure, Cholesterol level,sperm count , hormonal level, visual acuity etc. Or that it shows you have arthritis, toilet infection, fibroid and all sorts.
The simple truth is that these instruments they use to deceive unsuspecting citizens do not do what the advertisers claim it does.
I have also heard that there are some sanitary towels that cure uterine leiomyoma ( Fibroids). Lol.
After all these they give you a long literature of what they have done for you, give you some drugs to take and also sell some of the machines they claim to cure your diseases at a very exorbitant price.
I had a patient who fell for them and was brought in unconscious to the accident and emergency room. He was diagnosed to be diabetic with their machine and given some drugs to take, apparently the drug made him hypoglycemic (low blood sugar level) . From the investigations we carried out he wasn't diabetic.

Please note the following;

• Blood is used to determine your blood glucose level, Total cholesterol, Serum uric acid, Hormonal assays, Serum electrolytes etc
• Urine culture ; Is used to determine presence of  urinary tract infection
• Semen : Is used to determine your sperm count, when cultured can show infection and its other information as well.

To know what is happening in your body a specimen from your body must be used, and taken to the laboratory for analysis. Example of such specimen are blood, urine, stool, sputum, semen,discharge from different parts of the body (Swabs)y, CSF( cerebrospinal fluid) etc .
A radiological investigation may also be done  like ultrasound scan , CT scan (computed tomography) , MRI ( Magnetic resonance imaging) , X ray etc for some diagnosis to be made.
Please do not fall for them when next they come to you. Always go to the hospital to seek for medical help, and stop patronizing them on the streets. Just like the saying goes 'A word is enough for the wise'
