Learn more about 'Non-occupational PEP'

A lot of us do not know that there is a term known as 'Non-occupational PEP'. Let me define the meaning of PEP and from there we can relate it to the post .
PEP simply means post-exposure prophylaxis. It is a therapy(drugs) given to individuals who are exposed to either HIV infection or Hepatitis B infection, to reduce the risk of becoming infected. But for the scope of this post I will limit it to HIV infection.
I just want to use this platform to enlighten people about the need to visit the hospital when you run into such problems. I have had several patients who said they never knew they could access health care services in such cases.
As a medical personnel I have seen a lot of cases where patient become  positive later in life  after being exposed.
Please girls let us always be careful in our dealings with people. A patient told me of how she was raped in a man's office where she went to seal a  deal for the company that hired her. Unfortunately for the young lady the man had a different agenda, and the man  used the opportunity to unleash the animal in him on her by raping her in his office.
All she did was to take contraceptive to avoid getting pregnant but had no knowledge of coming to the hospital to get PEP if  negative for HIV.
The following people are eligible for non occupational PEP, if negative for HIV:
  • Cases of rape
  • Burst condom during sexual activities with a partner you are not aware of her status
  • Needle prick from unknown sources that you feel you are exposed to or any other case at all.
Never be ashamed of coming early  to the hospital to seek help in such cases.
Feel free to ask questions.

Stay safe guys.
